District-by-district perspectives on what we build in New York City

District 26 – Sunnyside, Woodside, Long Island City, Astoria, Dutch Kills

Orianna W:

A place that means a lot to me: Lance Corporal Thomas J. Noonan playground, aka “Rainbow Park.” This is my daughter’s outdoor space. We have a small yard, but my landlord doesn’t let us use it. My daughter has used the park to grow up, socialize, get physically stronger, and for me it has been a place to connect with friends and soak up some precious vitamin D. Rainbow Park is an integral park of my family’s life.

What concerns me: Housing is STILL expensive, even during Covid times. Also I fear that more small businesses will close and be replaced with corporate places. Also, No to Sunnyside Yards. We don’t need another Hudson Yards on our hands.

What I would like to see 5 years from now: Affordable moderate- and low-income housing. Green space which we entirely lack. And more facilities for senior social activities to precent social isolation.
